JAMB Announces New Deadline For University Admissions
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has postponed the deadline for completing admissions into public universities to November 17, 2025.
Naija News reports that the extension was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin.
The board had earlier fixed October 31 as the closing date for all public universities to complete their admission process after the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions held on July 18 under the chairmanship of the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa.
JAMB explained that the new date became necessary due to emerging circumstances that disrupted the initial schedule.
The board said that an appeal from the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities and the need to include recently accredited university programmes were the main reasons for the adjustment.
According to the board, a court order earlier halted parts of the 2025/2026 admission process, and the directive was only lifted on October 28, 2025.
Also, the National Universities Commission recently approved 229 new programmes for 37 universities, and admission into those programmes only began recently.
To ensure fairness and allow all eligible candidates to be considered, JAMB decided to extend the deadline for completing public university admissions to November 17.
The board expressed appreciation to institutions that have been working hard to meet the earlier date but insisted that this new deadline is final.
Earlier in September, JAMB had also extended the submission of Post-UTME screening results for underage candidates who sat for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
That extension allowed universities to finalize their admission processes before the general deadlines for public and private institutions.
