Kebbi Stadium: Reps To Probe $25 Million FIFA, CAF Grants To NFF

The House of Representatives on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, resolved to set up a special committee to investigate financial grants amounting to $25 million reportedly received by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) from FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Naija News reports that the decision followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Adedayo Adesola (APC, Lagos) and Felix Nwaeke (PDP, Rivers) at plenary.

Adesola, who moved the motion, noted that alleged mismanagement of FIFA and CAF grants was largely responsible for the poor performance of Nigeria’s national teams in recent years.

He recalled that in December 2016, FIFA raised an audit query over the handling of $1.1 million development grant to the NFF, stating that $802,000 was not properly accounted for. This prompted the then Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, to order an independent audit.

“Between 2018 and 2019, NFF officials, including the then President, Amaju Pinnick, faced criticism and were subject to EFCC and ICPC probes and court actions tied to alleged mismanagement of funds and sponsorships,” Adesola said.

$1.2m Birnin Kebbi Stadium Under Scrutiny

The Lagos lawmaker also cited a trending report on social media that $1.2m was allegedly spent by the NFF on the construction of a mini-stadium in Birnin Kebbi.

“We are concerned that a physical inspection of the stadium in Birnin Kebbi showed that it is a substandard facility in terms of quality and quantity, which cannot justify the sum of $1.2m claimed to have been spent on the project,” he said.

The House also referenced comments by former Super Eagles captain, Sunday Oliseh, who accused the NFF of stifling football growth through misappropriation of grants.

Oliseh had questioned the use of $1m received from FIFA for Nigeria’s preparations ahead of the 2002 World Cup.

Adesola stressed that with another Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the World Cup play-off involving the Super Eagles on the horizon, there was a need for decisive action to prevent further misuse of funds.

The motion was unanimously adopted at the plenary presided over by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.

The House resolved to set up a special investigative committee to probe NFF finances from 2015 to date. It also mandated the NFF leadership to appear before the committee with documents detailing receipts and expenditures of FIFA and CAF grants.
