Videos: Tinubu Arrives Ibadan For Ladoja’s Coronation As New Olubadan Of Ibadan
President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, for the coronation ceremony of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Naija News reports that President Tinubu arrived at Ladoke Akintola International Airport, Ibadan, at about 1:45pm and was received by the Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, top government functionaries, and notable politicians from the political divide.
He later proceeded to Mapo Hall for the coronation ceremony.
Ladoja’s journey to the throne followed days of sacred rites and traditional prayers.
Earlier in the week, the Afobaje of Ibadanland, Chief Waheed Popoola of the Labosinde Compound, placed the Akoko leaves on his head, a symbolic step in the process of becoming king.
The ritual, witnessed at Oja’ba, sparked jubilation as residents hailed the new monarch.
Governor Seyi Makinde, who cut short his annual leave to attend the event, has formally presented Oba Ladoja with the staff and instrument of office at Mapo Hall.
In a related news, former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has advised the Olubadan, Oba Abdul-Rasheed Ladoja, to avoid conflicting traditional rulership with politics.
Naija News reports that Obasanjo, in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi and made available to journalists on Wednesday, congratulated the monarch on his formal ascension to the throne.
Obasanjo emphasised that the new position requires humility, tolerance, and other qualities.
He also urged the monarch to be patient, tolerant, and seek divine wisdom and advice from a wide and varied range of quarters to succeed.
