It Is Shocking – Abdulsalami Bemoans N30,000 Minimum Wage, Kogi, Bayelsa, Imo Election Events

Former Military Head of State, Abdusalami Abubakar, has expressed his disappointment with the N30,000 minimum wage as consented to by the federal and state governments in the country, stating that it is impractical and cannot be accepted given the current circumstances of Nigeria.

Abdulsalami appealed to President Bola Tinubu, governors, and other politicians to seriously consider raising the minimum wage due to the nation’s ongoing and relentless hardships.

Represented by the Head of the Secretariat for the National Peace Committee, Reverend Father Atta Barkindo, Abdulsalami Abubakar emphasized that Nigeria’s survival is dependent on peace and the magnitude of suffering is overwhelming.

”The suffering in this country is too much. N30,000 as a monthly salary is unacceptable anywhere. So, we are pleading with the politicians from the president to the state governors to the commissioners, please, live up to the social contract you have signed with the people and let us begin to enjoy the dividends of democracy,” he said while delivering at the maiden Peace, Unity, and Reconciliation summit organized by the Taraba Independent Peace Committee, held in Jalingo, the state capital.

The former head of state frowned at the conduct of the Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo states off-cycle governorship elections.

”What is really wrong with us Nigerians? We just came from Kogi, Bayelsa and Imo states as the peace committee to witness and support the peaceful, credible, inclusive, and fair electoral process, but it is shocking what we saw.

”We must treat Nigerians equally if we want Nigeria and Taraba State to survive. No religion is superior to the other, no tribe is superior to the other, and no class is superior to the other. We are all equal human beings looking for the same stake in Taraba. Let us dialogue and see how we can bring a solution.

”I wish and I hope the politicians were here, we have done everything, and is left for the politicians to deliver,” Abdulsalami.

The summit was in collaboration with the Kukah Centre, the United Nations, UNESCO, and other partners, Naija News reports.
