The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has mourned the death of the former Minister of Internal Affairs, the late Senator Bello Yusuf Maitama.

In a post via his verified X handle on Tuesday, Obi said he and his wife visited Kano State to condole with the family of the respected elder statesman who served and contributed immensely to the development of the nation.

The former Governor of Anambra State stated that the late Maitama was also the Father-in-Law to the LP Vice Presidential candidate, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed.

He commiserated with the Emir of Kano, His Majesty Aminu Ado Bayero; the Emir of Bichi, His Royal Highness Nasiru Ado Bayero, and indeed all Nigerians over the death of the respected Nigerian.

Obi asked God to forgive his sins, and grant him eternal rest and grant his family, and all who mourn him, the fortitude to bear his irreplaceable loss.

He wrote: “Today, my wife and I were in Kano State, to condole with the family of Late Senator Bello Yusuf Maitama, a respected elder statesman who served the nation as Minister of Internal Affairs.

“He was also the Father-in-Law to the Vice Presidential Candidate of our Party, Sen Datti Baba-Ahmed. I also commiserate with the Emir of Kano, His Majesty Aminu Ado Bayero, the Emir of Bichi, His Royal Highness Nasiru Ado Bayero and indeed all Nigerians, over the death of this respected Nigerian, who contributed immensely to the development of our nation.
