Dangote Threatens To Arrest People Spreading Fake News About Cement Price
The management of Dangote Cement Plc. has distanced itself from viral reports online that the company has slashed the cost of cement per bag.
The viral reports allegedly on some media platforms and social media claimed that the company had reduced the price of a bag of cement to between ₦2,400 and ₦2,700 as part of a sales promo, Naija News learnt.
“This is to inform the general public that the sale of Dangote Cement is at a promotional factory price of ₦2,410 per bag. Transportation and offloading cost to any location in Nigeria is N300 per bag,” one of the said posts reportedly reads.
However, adding further to his disclaimer earlier, the Chief Branding and Communications Officer of the Dangote Group, Anthony Chiejina, described the reports as mischievous, malicious, and false.
Chiejina threatened that the Dangote Cement management has formally informed law enforcement agencies to track down, name, and deal with the perpetrators of the fake news, which it described as devious and deceptive.
He urged Dangote Cement customers and other stakeholders to continue patronising the high-quality cement brand and be careful of scammers, who are bent on defrauding them of their funds.
Naija News understands that Dangote Cement Plc has been receiving calls to cut down its price following an announcement by BUA Group a few weeks ago.
BUA Cement Announces Price Reduction
Earlier, Manufacturers of BUA Cement announced the plan to reduce the price of their product and crash cement prices in Nigeria following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu.
Naija News understands the chairman of the company, Abdul Samad Rabiu, made this known after a meeting with President Tinubu at the State House, in Abuja.
Speaking on the visit, Abdul Samad Rabiu said that to support the efforts of the government to bring down the prices of key commodities, the company is adding two new plants at the end of the year to be commissioned by President Bola Tinubu.
The two new plants would bring BUA Cement’s total capacity to 17 million metric tons.
