Former Niger Delta University Vice Chancellor, Edoumiekumo Is Dead

A former Chairman of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, Prof. Samuel Edoumiekumo, has reportedly died after a brief illness.

Naija News reports that Edoumiekumo, a former Vice Chancellor of the Niger Delta University (NDU), died on Friday night, a source told The PUNCH on Saturday evening.

The deceased obtained his First School Leaving Certificate from Akeindenowei Primary School, Toru Angiama, in 1982 and his West Africa School Certificate from Ajeromi Ifelodun High School, Lagos State, in 1988.

The late Economics Professor holds a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and two Doctor of Philosophy Degrees, which he obtained from the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

On May 17, 2017, the then-governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, approved the appointment of Edoumiekumo as the acting VC of Niger Delta University following the expiration of the tenure of the former VC, Prof. Humprey Ogoni.

On May 2, 2018, he was appointed the fourth substantive VC of the school.

Six Die In Kaduna-Abuja Highway Auto Crash

Meanwhile, a commercial vehicle registered as DKA 555 XF, belonging to the Gulf car company, was involved in a collision on the Kaduna-Abuja highway near Sabon Gaya, Kakau axis. The tragic accident resulted in the loss of six lives, Naija News has learned.

Reports revealed that the accident occurred at approximately 7 a.m. on Thursday when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle and collided with a concrete barricade.

Kabir Yusuf Nadabo, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kaduna State, confirmed the accident to Daily Trust. He informed that the bodies of the victims have been taken to the morgue at St. Gerald Catholic Hospital in Kakuri, Kaduna South LGA.

Nadabo attributed the cause of the crash to factors such as loss of control, speeding, and a burst tire. He urged drivers to exercise caution and drive responsibly.
