Wife of the Nigerian President, Aisha Buhari, on Tuesday, shared a fake circular from the Central Bank of Nigeria in which the apex bank ordered the recirculation of the old Naira notes until May 10.

The fake CBN circular is being shared widely and reported across the news media.

The circular reads: “Due to the current and unpleasant situation happening in Nigeria, in line with Mr, President, after having a closed meeting with him on the 20th of February, 2023. Central Bank of Nigeria has been directed to only reissue and recirculate the old N 200, N500 and 1000 banknotes and this is expected to circulate as legal tender for 70 days up to May 1, 2023. Members of the public should therefore continue to spend the old notes.”

The post shared by the president’s wife had gathered over two thousand likes within an hour when Naija News checked.

However, the CBN’s Director of Corporate Communications, Osita Nwanisobi, via social media page denied the apex bank issued a directive.

He further urged the public to disregard the circular on social media, as it is fake news.

The apex bank tweeted: “PLEASE BE WARY OF FAKE NEWS!”

Mrs Buhari who earlier shared ‘an anti-Buhari video, an interview of Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in which the governor attacked the president and alleged that certain elements in Aso Rock were working against the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu told BBC Hausa within a year of her husband’s presidency that Buhari’s government had been hijacked by cabals who are “behind presidential appointments.”

She warned during the interview that, “He is yet to tell me, but I have decided as his wife that if things continue like this up to 2019, I will not go out and campaign again and ask any woman to vote as I did before. I will never do that.

“The president does not know 45 out of 50 of the people he appointed and I don’t know them either, despite being his wife of 27 years.

“Some people are sitting down in their homes folding their arms only for them to be called to come and head an agency or a ministerial position.”

But the president responded by dismissing the claim, saying the wife “belongs to the kitchen,” in an interview with VOA, Hausa Service.
