NSCDC Operatives Uncover Illegal Mining Site In Lagos

The Lagos State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has said it uncovered an illegal mining site during its operations in the midweek.

In a terse statement by the state commandant, Eweka Okoro, the agency said its operatives were carrying out a search when they burst the location in the Ijede axis of Ikorodu.

Okoro, who condemned the criminal act, said the miners were illegally mining soil from large hectares of land where telecommunication masts and power lines were planted.

“The Command will not rest on its oars to ensure that illegal mining sites are shut and protect pipelines, telecommunications infrastructure and other national assets,” the NSCDC commandant said.

Equipment discovered at the site according to Okoro includes three caterpillars, suspected to be used by the miners for their activities.

Okoro warned those engaging in illegality that could jeopardize public health and critical public assets to desist.

He said that the NSCDC CG, Ahmed Audi, had directed State Commandants to protect Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) belonging to Federal, State, and Local Governments.

Heart Broken Mechanic Commits Suicide After Another Man Impregnates Girlfriend 

In another report, a man identified as Chuks Ikenna, committed suicide after a man impregnated his girlfriend in Niger state.

Naija News learnt that the incident reportedly occurred on Thursday morning at the victim’s residence at the Dwakoro area in Suleja LGA of the state.

A resident, John Adeleye, told Daily Trust that Ikenna who is an auto mechanic became desolate when he found out that his lover had cheated on him and was pregnant.

He explained that the deceased had jokingly told people he would commit suicide but no one took him seriously.

Ikenna’s body was later found with an empty bottle of ‘otapiapia’ and a suicide note.

He said; “Chuks found out his lover had cheated on him and was pregnant. He was devastated by the news. There was confusion over who the father was.

“He jokingly told people that he would kill himself because of the incident, but they never took him seriously. An empty bottle of otapiapia was found beside his corpse, as well as a suicide note.”
