Unknown gunmen on Wednesday attacked the ancient town of Owo in Ondo State, South-West Nigeria.

Naija News gathered that the attack, which took place at Folahami Junction, where a construction company called Craneburg Construction Company was located, reportedly injured many people.

According to sources, the unknown gunmen started shooting on sighting those at the site.

An eyewitness told Vanguard that some explosives devices were also used during the attack.

Confirming the attack, the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Funmi Odunlami, said three persons were injured during a shootout in the town.

She, however, could not confirm if the attackers were terrorists or bandits.

Funmi said, ”Tonight, there was a shooting incident at Craneburg Construction Company Owo, Policemen are currently at the scene, victims have been taken to hospital, and they are in stable condition.

”We can not ascertain the casualty figure now, and we also cannot say it was a terrorists’ attack with the use of explosives devices, but tomorrow( Thursday ) morning, the EOD men of the command would go to the scene.”

Second Attack On Owo

Recall that seven weeks back, yet-to-be-identified gunmen had invaded the St Francis Catholic Church in Owo town, killing over 30 churchgoers and injuring many others.

The Muhammadu Buhari-led administration had blamed members of the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) for carrying out the attack.

But Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State had dismissed the federal government’s claim that the terrorist group carried out the attack.
