Ekweremadu: Nigerian Immigration Service Reveals Age Of Organ Donor

Professor of journalism, Farooq Kperogi has explained why Ike Ekweremadu, a former Deputy Senate President, was reportedly arrested on Thursday in UK by the Metropolitan Police.

Naija News had earlier reported that one Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, were arrested over alleged organ harvesting.

Ekweremadu and his wife were arrested in London by the Specialist Crime Team of the UK Metropolitan Police.

In a statement on Thursday, the Metropolitan Police confirmed that the pair allegedly conspired to facilitate the travel of a child to the country in order to harvest the minor’s organ.

The police added that the investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022.

The pair were later denied bail after been charged to court following an investigation by the special crime team.

Reacting to Ekweremadu’s ordeal in a post on Twitter, Kperogi stated that the former Deputy Senate President was not involved in ritual killing.

He wrote: “Organ harvesting doesn’t mean killing someone and selling their body parts for “money” or other kinds of “ritual.”

“It’s a term for surgically removing a body organ, such as a kidney, from a healthy person who can live without it and transplanting it to the body of someone who is in danger of dying without it. It’s a crime in the UK and elsewhere if this is done without the consent of the organ donor.

“Ekweremadu’s child needs an organ to survive, and he is alleged to have brought in a donor from Nigeria whose consent he and his wife didn’t seek.

“Contrary to what people are saying on social media, he didn’t plan on killing someone for “ritual.”

“Some Naija people no go kill pesin with their their atavistic thinking. Everything is “ritual sacrifice”
