The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Saad Abubakar, on Friday asked the Muslim faithful to be on the lookout for the new moon of Shawwal 1443 After Hijarah on Saturday 30th April 2022.

The day according to him will be equivalent to the 29th day of Ramadan 1443 After Hijrah.

The sighting of the new moon according to him denotes the 10th month in the Islamic calendar and that marks the end of the Ramadan fast.

The respected monarch and Islamic leader urged any Muslim faithful who sights the new moon to immediately communicate it to the provided phone numbers.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Chairman Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sokoto Sultanate Council, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, Naija News understands.

Below are the telephone numbers made available for confirmation of the new moon:

0803 715 7100; 0706 741 6900; 0806 630 3077; 0803 614 9757; 0803 596 5322 as well as 0803 594 5903.

It could be recalled that at the beginning of the Ramadan fast, President Muhammadu Buhari charged Muslims across the country to pray for peace.

The political leader charged Muslims to show greater personal discipline, which is necessary for the realisation of a great nation.

The president in a statement released through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu said the period offers a unique opportunity to “feel the hunger experienced by the poor to feel what it is like to be deprived and marginalised.”

According to him, “Muslims should seek greater personal discipline, which is necessary for the realisation of a great nation.”

Buhari cautioned the Muslim elite against food waste and extravagant spending while others face hunger and destitution.
