Nigerian Man In The UK Jailed For Being Violent Towards Igbos

Adeyinka Shoyemi, a Nigerian residing in West London has been sentenced to jail for racial hatred and violence towards Igbos.

Evening Standard reported that a specialist group officers in the Met’s Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit assessed messages posted by accounts under the name ‘Adeyinka Grandson’.

The report stated further that 45-year old caught the attention of the counter-terror police in 2019 after some people reported him for targeting a particular ethnic group.

Shoyemi posts which instigated violence against a particular tribe was in potential violation of the law and a probe was launched.

Shoyemi had on his social media pages targeted Igbos and other nationals who do not agree with his ideology.

He also claimed that Igbo and Fulani people are the cause of the problems in Nigeria, while also accusing them of killing the Yorubas and raping their children.

The suspect was first arrested in August 2019 and was charged with six counts of inciting racial hatred.

He was released on bail with a condition of not inciting any threatening, abusive or insulting to any ethnic groups on social media posts.

However, he flouted his bail and was rearrested on two more charges.

On Thursday, Shoyemi was sentenced to four-and-a-half years’ behind bars and was found guilty of eight counts of inciting racial hatred after a trial at Southwark Crown Court.
