Ortom: Presidency Speaks On Buhari Ordering Security Operatives Not To Attack Fulani Herdsmen

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has blamed the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration for the high rate of insecurity in the country.

Ortom made this known in a statement on Wednesday when he received the team from the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) led by a representative of the Director-General, Mrs Cecilia Gayya at Government House in Makurdi, Naija News understands.

The Benue governor stated that the issue of insecurity in the country is man-made, disclosing that the actions of alleged highly placed individuals were the cause of insecurity.

Ortom said, “The problem of insecurity in Nigeria today is man-made. The present federal government is responsible because I took proactive steps right from 2016 when I came in and I saw this coming. And today I am warning Nigerians, those who are sitting in their comfort zones, I want them to understand.

“Last week, one of my colleagues in the northeast raised an alarm that ISWAP has taken over part of his state and they are gradually coming in. They are deadly and they can overrun this country based on what he saw. And I agree with him that if we don’t take time, it will happen.

“Like I raised alarm earlier about the challenges we have that if we don’t take time, one day, what happened in Afghanistan, God forbid, it will happen in Nigeria. And it will appear to me that this leadership wants to surrender Nigeria to the insurgents. Their action and inaction have proven to me that they are working with the insurgents. That’s the truth.”

Tackle ISWAP Activities Before It Is Too Late – Ortom Tells Buhari

In related news, Ortom on Tuesday asked President Buhari to tackle the activities of terrorists loyal to the Islamic State in West African Province (ISWAP) before they spread their tentacles in the country.

Ortom supported the statement made by his counterpart in Borno State, Babagana Zulum, that ISWAP fighters are more dangerous and deadlier than the Boko Haram insurgents.

Ortom made this known on Tuesday when he received a delegation from the Victim Support Fund (VSF), led by its Chairperson, Toyosi Ogunsiji, at the Government House in Makurdi.

I want to lend my voice to what my colleague in Borno State, Prof Babagana Zulum has cried out against the activities of ISWAP in that part of the country. The Federal Government should not take this alarm from the threats of ISWAP lightly.

“Take proactive steps to send the terrorists away from Nigeria so that we can live in peace. We can not continue this way. Nigeria deserves more peace than what we have now,” he said.

The Benue governor also urged the Federal Government to take seriously the alarm raised by Governor Zulum on the recruitment of more fighters by the terrorist group.
