Southern Governors have received the backing of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria over their decision to ban open grazing in the region.
The National Patron of the group, Senator Walid Jibrin, disclosed this decision during a press conference in Kaduna on Thursday.
Jibrin in his statement noted that the decision of the southern governors is capable of providing a lasting solution to the farmers-herders crisis across the country.
The lawmaker further stated cattle rearing has been in Africa for over 100 years without any consideration to the free movement of cattle (Open Grazing) or any Grazing Reserve.
He, however, noted that open grazing was allowed because there were few herders then, adding that open grazing today is getting outdated internationally.
Recall that Governors in the region after a meeting in Asaba, the Delta State capital issued the ban on open grazing so as to address security challenges in the region.
