I Hope Daura Will Not Become Too Distant When I'm No Longer President - Buhari

The presidency has moved to give some clarifications about who President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed to replace the embattled Ibrahim Magu as the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Speaking via a series of tweets on Thursday, Lauretta Onochie, social media aide to the President said it is better to wait for an official communication before rushing to tell the public unconfirmed news.

She lamented that only on Wednesday, five different persons have been named by people as replacements for Magu as the EFCC boss, noting that the information given to the public is fake news.

She wrote:

5 different men were appointed yesterday to head EFCC.”

“It’s really sad how we are now d headquarter of fake news. Even the mainstream media fell into the trap.”

“Recently, many people were appointed Chief of staff to the President. Except HE Gambari, who got the job.”

“We never learn.”

Speaking further in another tweet, the presidential aide warned that the rush to break news is what is responsible for the spread of fake news.

She advised on the need to be patient and await official communications rather than rushing to break fake news.

“The best thing to do is for everyone to chill. Let’s wait until we have an official announcement.”

“The rush to break news has now become the rush to break fake news.”

“There’s no honour in breaking fake news.”

“Let’s be patient till we hear from official sources.”

“Thank you.”
