Major NCC Shake-up As Four Directors Redeployed

Prof. Umar Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has ordered a major shake-up of its senior management.

Naija News reports that four directors were redeployed in a bid to bring in new ideas and energy into some aspects of the organization’s regulatory activities.

Those affected include the Director, Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement Department, Efosa Idehen; Director, Public Affairs Department, Dr. Henry Nkemadu; Director, Consumer Affairs Bureau, Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, and Director, Research and Development (R and D) Department, Ephraim Nwokonneya.

The new posting includes Nwokonneya reporting as the new Director, Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement Department and Idehen as Director, Consumer Affairs Bureau.

Also, Adinde is taking over as the Director, Public Affairs Department, while Nkemadu resumes at the Research and Development department.

This online news platform reports that the redeployment takes immediate effect.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had recently reappointed Umar Danbatta as executive vice chairman of the NCC.

Umar Danbatta reappointment was based on the recommendation of Isa Pantami, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, and in line with the Nigerian communications act of 2003.

The statement reads: “In an effort to consolidate the gains made in the telecommunications sector in line with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, President Muhammadu Buhari approved the reappointment of Professor Umar Garba Danbatta as the Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission,” the statement read.

“Professor Danbatta’s reappointment was based on the recommendation of the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami), FNCS, FBCS, FIIM, in line with the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003.

“While wishing Professor Danbatta the best, the Honourable Minister directed him to significantly improve on the overall performance of the Commission as well as ensure that adequate mechanisms are put in place to facilitate the implementation of all policies of Federal Government through the Ministry.

“Furthermore, the Honourable Minister enjoined him to ensure that the interest of telecommunication consumers, Nigerians and investors are adequately protected.”
