Edo 2020: PDP Frontline Aspirant Steps Down For Obaseki

A frontline aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Edo 2020 election, Gideon Ikhine, has stepped down from the race for the governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki who recently joined the main opposition party.

Naija News reports that the PDP frontline aspirant announced his decision to step down for Governor Obaseki on Monday at a ceremony in Benin City, the Edo State capital ahead of Friday’s governorship primaries of the PDP.

This online news platform understands that the ceremony had Governor Obaseki, the Edo State PDP chairman, Dr Tony Aziegbemi and other party leaders from across the state in attendance.

Announcing the decision, Ikhine said that there was no progress without sacrifice, adding that Governor Obaseki’s defection to the main opposition party was “God’s great answer to the party and his aspiration.”

Ikhine noted that two persons could have the same vision but the means of approaching them are different even as he stressed that he was not actually stepping down, but ” stepping behind the man who would lead the party to glory come Sept. 19″.

The PDP frontline aspirant said he and his supporters had resolved to work with the governor to ensure that a better tomorrow is achieved in the state.

Responding, Governor Obaseki said that with the political situation in the state, history was being made in the country, adding that 21 years later in the present republic, democracy was taking a new turn as intellects were coming into the political process to redirect political processes and situation in the state.

Speaking further, Governor Obaseki stressed that he joined the PDP because he realised that PDP was Edo and Edo was PDP.
