The presidency has reacted to rumours that Mallam Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari has died from complications from coronavirus (COVID-19) infection.

Naija News recalls the social media has been buzzing since yesterday (Thursday) when controversial journalist, Kemi Olunloyo, alleged that a high ranking member of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration has died from the coronavirus complications.

The outspoken activist, however, stopped short of revealing the identity of the person as according to her, the national security of Nigeria is involved.

She noted she would give the government the privilege of breaking the news publicly.

She wrote: “#BREAKINGFlag of Nigeria A HIGH RANKING member of President Buhari’s Cabinet has DIED Coffinof #CoronaVirus #Covid9Squared sosSkull and crossbonesFace with medical mask complications. I will give the feds the honor of announcing it. U cannot hide it like Yar’Adua. I’m not telling because I value NATIONAL SECURITY OF NIGERIA #drkemiolunloyo”

However, Bashir Ahmad, the personal assistant to the President on new media has responded to the rumours, noting that Kyari is in Lagos and responding well to treatment.

He made this known in a tweet on Friday.

He wrote:

“Though I really don’t know who this Lola is, but someone close to her should pls tell her to leave Abba Kyari to recuperate in peace, he’s in Lagos & responding well to treatment. If it’s caring she should also use the same energy to ask the whereabouts of other #COVID19 patients.”

Meanwhile, this online medium reports that Abba Kyari, the Chief of Staff to President Buhari was some weeks ago, confirmed to have tested positive to the COVID-19 infection.
