Journalists Fled Senate Briefing Amid Reports Of Infected Senators

The 9th National Assembly floor on Tuesday, March 24 erupts with some drama after the Senate Spokesperson, Senator Godiya Akwashiki stepped in for a press briefing.

Naija News learnt that some journalists who were covering the National Assembly on Tuesday ignored the press briefing and left the Senate floor for fear of possible Coronavirus infection at the moment the senate spokesman stepped in.

It could be recalled that a piece of news yet to be verified circulated the internet on Tuesday morning that 10 Nigerian Senators and also 15 Members of the House of Representatives had tested positive to the dreaded Coronavirus, codenamed COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the red chamber has decided to go off for 2 weeks following its resolution after a closed-door session which lasted for an hour on Tuesday.

It was reported, however, that journalist present at the Senate press centre for a briefing all exit the gathering when the Senate Spokesman, Akwashiki approached the press centre for a media chat.

This online news platform also understands that about 15 Senators, with the Senate Spokesman, Akwashiki inclusive have just returned from the UK, US and Canada trip a few days ago and all have refused to adhere to the 14-day self-isolation precautionary measure again the COVID-19.

In another news earlier, the Chief of Staff to President Muhammad Buhari, Abba Kyari has tested positive for Coronavirus disease while the President, on the other hand, was said to test negative.
