Gov. Zulum Awards N4.5 Billion Contract For The Construction Of First Ever Flyover In Northeast

Residents of Maiduguri, Borno state capital may have cause to smile as the state government awarded the contract for the construction of first-ever Flyover Bridge in the Northeast to the Eighteen Engineering Company ( EEC) at the cost of ₦4, 287 billion, which will be constructed in Customs area, in the state capital.

While signing the contract on behalf of the Borno state government at the Musa Usman Secretariat, the state commissioner for Works, Arch. Yerrima Saleh said ” today we are going to witness a historic ceremony of the signing and awarding of contract for the Construction of Fist ever Flyover bridge in the Northeast at Customs area in Maiduguri at the cost of ₦4, 289 billion to the EEC to be completed in 18 months starting from December’s 3019.”.

” The construction of the Flyover was as a result of his Excellency Gov.Zulum concern for the difficulty in tragic Jarm in Post office and Customs areas, it could be recalled that immediately after his swearing-in the governor took a visit to Post Office area and promised to construct a Fly over. Today in fulfilment of that promise we witnessing this occasion “, he added.

He noted that, ” the contract for the construction of the Flyover was approved by the state Executive in the last ExCO meeting that the construction of the Flyover to commence immediately in Custom area, we had a meeting with management of EEC and agreed to execute the contract in18 months without additional cost according to the design at the stipulated time and quality”.

Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Finance Adamu Lawan said, “I congratulate the EEC for winning the contract, the state government is willing to pay as at when due, we are not going to default in payment. With the construction of flyover in Maiduguri, Maiduguri is going to migrate from rural city to Modern city”.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Engr Ibrahim NJidda said, ” the signing and awarding of the contract for the construction of Flyover in Customs area is a great landmark in the history of Borno state and the Northeast in general, as it is the first-ever flyover in the region.

Responding, on behalf of the EEC company, Mr. Qin Weiguo thanked the Borno state government for considering them worthy of the contract saying that ” I assured you we are going to do our best to construct a befitting Flyover in custom area within the stipulated time and quality. We will work hand in hand with the government to ensure successful completion of the flyover “.

Naija News recalls that Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno state had earlier presented the sum of N134, 500, 932 billion as proposed Budget for 2020 fiscal year before the state House of Assembly for passage into law.

Presenting the Budget Proposal to the Borno state House of Assembly at the Assembly Complex Maiduguri on Monday Governor Babagana Zulum said, “the 2020 Budget proposal is named” Budget of Recovery and Stabilization”.
