9 Dead As Boko Haram, Army Clash In Yobe

Nine persons have been confirmed dead after a gun battle between the Nigerian Army and members of the popular and dreadful Boko Haram terrorist group.

Naija News reports that five members of the terrorist group, one officer and three soldiers died as a result of the clash on Saturday, February 16, at the Buni Yadi in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe state.

The casualties were recorded when the terrorists attacked a military formation in the town.

While confirming the report in a statement obtained by Naija News, the Army Spokesman, Col. Sagir Musa said five other Army officers have sustained various degrees of bullet wounds and have since started receiving treatment in the Brigade Field Ambulance.

Musa said the operatives of the Nigerian Army have recovered; nine AK 47 rifles, one anti-aircraft gun, 121 rounds of 12.7 mm anti-aircraft ammunition, two 36 hand grenades, 295 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition and four Improvised Explosive Devices (IED). He furthered that the insurgents were armed with four gun trucks, one Mine Resistant Ambush Protection (MRAP), one MOWAC (heavy fighting equipment) alongside other several assorted arms and ammunition.

He further named the items recovered as; one IED cylinder, one RPG bomb, one RPG bomb charger, one gun truck and one Bajaj motorcycle were also recovered from the terrorists.

Musa quoted the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, to have commended troops of the Force for the successes being recorded in recent times in the fight against insurgency in the country and urged officers of the Army to remain vigilant and resolute in wiping-out insurgency out of the soil of Nigeria.

Buratai also thanked all those who passed timely and credible information that aided the successful “abortion of the attempted attack on troop’s position in Buni Yadi.”
