Argentina Senators Vote Against Abortion Bill
Lawmakers In Argentina Refuse Abortion Bill
An abortion bill proposed by women’s rights group and approved by the legislature’s lower house in June, has been voted against by Argentine senators today.
The vote, with 38 against, 31 in favor and two abstentions, capped a marathon session that began the day before and stretched into the early hours of Thursday before its final conclusion.
Shouts of joy was heard among the anti-abortion activists who were outside the congress, while the pro-choice campaigners, who wore green scarves to symbolize their movement were sad.
Some burnt garbage and wooden pallets and threw stones at riot police, who attempted to disperse them with tear gas and water cannon.
