The Biafra Nations Youth League, BNYL, have called on Nigeria and Cameroon government to release all Bakassi freedom fighters held in various cells, speaking through its organization Chief of Staff, and Leader of Displaced Bakassi Youths, Mr Linus Essien, BNYL said that those who are agitating for resettlement of refugees in Nigeria and picked up arms in the process did so because of the neglected region. Essien said that the people of Bakassi have reasons for every actions they take.

“Our people are being detained in various prisons in Nigeria and Cameroon for rising up against this wicked government of Nigeria.
We want them to be released immediately, and Nigeria should equally compel her Cameroon counterpart to release Bakassi detainees”.
He said that the decision of notable Bakassi freedom fighters to join the Biafra struggle is in the best interest of the region.

“We have never benefited from Niger Delta amnesty programs, whether we exist they don’t know, what is our faith if we keep quiet and the Igbos go out of Nigeria.
We have chosen not to be on the fence like those in the South South.
We who are in the Gulf of Guinea have taken a stand to join the struggle is independence of Biafra, being a part of former East, and owners of the Bight of Biafra”.
He warned any group in the South South not to speak for the people of Bakassi.

Come to Bakassi, I am known everywhere as Biafra man, and my followers and members are doing a lot of good work in briefing our people, no group in South South should speak for us, let the IYC speak for the Ijaw, the MOSOP should speak for Ogoni, why we speak for ourselves. But we pray for understanding” he said.
He said that the BNYL is committed to the struggle and would not disappoint Bakassi natives.
