Wife of Nigeria’s President Mrs Aisha Buhari, has appealed to Nigerians to support the education of the girl child.

Mrs. Buhari made the call on Thursday, in Abuja, while speaking to participants at the 2017 Women and Girls Summit, organised to mark the International Day of the Girl Child.

Represented by the wife of the Vice President, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo, Aisha Buhari charged stakeholders in the education sector to initiate strategies, programmes and activities that would increase the education of young girls across Nigeria.

Calling parents and respected members of the society to ensure the protection of the girl child, the President’s wife said, such would enable the girl child attain their potential in life.

The First Lady also condemned the gender-based violence and discrimination against the girl child, noting that it has continually hindered the girl child from becoming professionals, leaders, politicians and educated mothers.
