The Kogi State senator, Dino Melaye, has expressed his reasons for the need for him not to be recalled to his colleagues at a Senate plenary.

His plea comes after Naija News reported that INEC Chief Press Secretary, Rotimi Oyekanmi only a valid court order can stop the recall process.

INEC released a timetable and modalities for the recall at his Kogi West Senatorial District.

The senator restated his claim this afternoon that his recall Meanwhile, the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu has guaranteed Senator Melaye of the upper chamber’s support, declaring the recall process as being “dead on arrival.”

Mr. Ekweremadu said the Constitution makes recall a cumbersome process, hence it would be difficult for Mr. Melaye’s opponents to succeed.

“The Senate would also verify the legitimacy of the votes before a conclusion is made,” Mr. Ekweremadu said; although the deputy senate president’s claim is not stated in the constitutional requirement for recall.

The exercise of the collection of signature for Senator Melaye’s recall began since June 10, 2017 and advocators say 188,588 signatures have not been submitted to INEC, which is more than 52 per cent of about 260,000 voters in the constituency.

INEC, maintains its stand on proceeding with the recall process since there was no court injunction to stop it.
