The Murder Case: Is Amanda Knox Innocent?

Following her trial for the murder of her roommate -Meredith Kercher, which occurred in 2007, Amanda and her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were both sentenced to prison terms of 26 and 25 years respectively after have been found guilty of the offence. It turned out that Amanda and her lover were released and acquitted in October 2011, but were called back to stand trial for the same murder because Italy’s last appeal court, the Court of Cassation, overturned their acquittals.

The duo were convicted for the second time in February 2014 with Amanda Knox given a 28.5 year sentence while her boyfriend was slapped with 25. The following year 2015, their second conviction was again overturned by Italy’s Supreme Court when the defense called a witness who said the duo were in no way connected to the crime. Amanda and her lover were eventually released and acquitted of the murder, but Amanda’s libel against Kenyan lawyer Patrick Lumumba was upheld and she was sentenced to three years in prison and a fine.
