Adhir Kalyan was born on August 4, 1983 in Durban, South Africa to a family of Indian descent. His mother, Santosh Vinita “Sandy” Kalyan, happens to be a Democratic Alliance MP in the South African National Assembly. As a young boy, after graduating from high school, Adhir moved to Crawford College in Durban and graduated from there.

Adhir Kaylan began his acting career in the South African theater productions. His first role was in “A Christmas Carol”. He also acted in Macbeth as well as other notable plays. He decided to move abroad to pursue an acting career and therefore decided to go to London. When he got there in 2005 he was looking for auditions and luckily he was quick to play the role of Arjmand Younis Ghosts (Series 5) as well as BBC series Holby City (Series 8).
