Famed Bonanza actor Pernell Roberts (also known as Pernel Elven Roberts Jr.) was a household name in Hollywood show business. He was best recognized as the bearded actor and his baritone voice. Many people know him for his best performance in the Western TV series ‘Bonanza’. There he had played the role of the eldest son ‘Adam Cartwright’. In addition, he has played the title character of Chief Surgeon Dr. John Mclntyre on the series Trapper John, MD (1979-86).

Pernell Roberts was born as the only child of Pernell Elven Roberts Sr. on May 18, 1928. He was born in Waycross, Georgia, United States of America. His father was a sales representative and his mother Minnie Myrtle Morgan Roberts. He has an African-American ethnicity.
During high school, she has acted in plays/plays at school and church. Roberts also honked and sang at local USO shows. She subsequently joined Georgia Tech. But she did not graduate from it. He then served two years in the United States Marine Corps in 1946. During his time in the military, he joined the Marine Corps Band and had played tuba/horn. Furthermore, he is also skilled in playing sousaphone and percussion. After being released from the military, he enrolled at the University of Maryland. He moved back to New York in 1952, then did his first off-Broadway in one-act operas and ballets with productions such as ‘Lyric Theatre’ and ‘Equity Library Theatre’. Later, in 1955, he received a Drama Desk Award for his off-Broadway performance of Macbeth, which was followed by the role of Mercutio in “Romeo & Juliet.” In addition, he had also performed at the American Shakespeare Festival and on Broadway.
