Oscar Nunez Biography

Born November 18, 1958 in Colon, Cuba, to parents of classmates of Fidel Castro at the University of Havana. Her mother was a dentist while her father was a lawyer.

Shortly after he was born, his parents migrated and moved to Venezuela and later to the United States. They moved to Boston when they were two years old, and when they were four, they took their son with them to Union City, New Jersey, where he was raised. He is bilingual in English and Spanish.

New York City is home to several colleges he attended. They include the Fashion Institute of Technology, Parsons School of Design for writing, and the Magna Institute of Dental Technology where he was certified as a dental technician. Oscar was also a member of The Groundlings (a school of improv and sketching troupe based in Los Angeles, California) and performed in their Sunday Company.

Career

His comedy show started in New York with TheChoc of The Funny Theater Troupe where he performed in over 300 shows. He then appeared in theater in New York and Washington D.C. before moving to Los Angeles in the mid-90s. It was there that he joined The Groundlings where he wrote and starred in a production called Smooth Towards down there

Oscar Nunez attended the Warner Brothers Comedy Writer’s Workshop and graduated in 1997. Continuing his comedy writing, he entered competitions such as the ABC Latino Writers Project in 1999, where he was a finalist.

He appeared on the Match Match show in 1998 but was not a winner. Oscar was a stand-in on The Men’s Show for co-host, Adam Carolla.

Besides his role in The Office for which he became more famous, his other television credits include The District, 24, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Malcolm in the Center, Reno 911! , Mad TV, Grounded for Life, Still Standing, The Bad Girl’s Guide.
