The former Los Angeles running back was born on March 26, 1960, to Gwendolyn Allen (mother) and Harold Allen (father) in San Diego, California, making his citizenship American.

Marcus Allen began his educational career at Abraham Lincoln High School where he played on the school football team as a safety man and quarterback. Upon graduation from school, he went to the University of California (USC) for further education. Although his stay lasted from 1978 to 1981, he was a member of the institution’s football team and was renowned as a fullback and defensive back. His four seasons with his college football team also opened up the opportunity for him to rush over 2,000 yards in a season, becoming the second player to achieve such a feat in NCAA history.
