Benue killings: Gov. Ortom Blames FG, Says He Won’t Cancel Anti-Grazing Law,

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has said he would not be intimidated by the killings perpetrated by herdsmen in the state to repeal the anti-grazing law.

Ortom who said this at the mass burial held in Makurdi for 73 victims by herdsmen attack, said the law enacted last year bans the movement of livestock on foot within the state, among other things.

“It is the best way to go and it is in conformity with global best practices,” Ortom said.

The governot also blamed the Federal Government’s “silence” for the killings, lamenting that the brutal killings would have been forestalled if the federal government had acted on the reports he gave it concerning the threats of attacks by the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore.

He therefore, called for the arrest and prosecution of the leadership of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore.
