BIOGRAPHY
Born in Boston, Uma Thurman grew up in Ameherst, Massachusetts. Noticed at fifteen by two New York impresarios in a New England preparatory school, she joined the Professional Children’s School a year later to pursue a career as an actress. She played her first role in 1988 in Bud Smith ‘s Johnny Be Good , opposite Anthony Michael Hall . The same year, she established herself in two international successes: The Adventures of Baron Munchausen by Terry Gilliam , where she played a youthful and luscious Venus, and Dangerous Liaisons by Stephen Frears . Followed by her performance as a neurotic and bisexual wife in Philip Kaufman ‘s Henry & June (1990) and other notable supporting roles which confirmed her talents as an actress: Richard Gere ‘s psychotic patient in Hot Blood for Cold-Blooded Murder (1992) , blind witness in Jennifer 8 (id.), prostitute with a big heart by Robert De Niro in Mad dog and glory (1993) or even a hippie hitchhiker with a huge thumb in the eccentric Even cowgirls get the blues (id.) by Gus Van Sant . 1994 was the year of consecration: Uma Thurman found herself headlining Quentin Tarantino ‘s cult Pulp fiction , Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Her role as a pseudo-actress junkie victim of an overdose earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. After the romantic comedy Between Cats and Dogs (1996), she definitively established her sex appeal in Hollywood by lending her features to the poisonous Poison Ivy in Batman & Robin (1997) and by donning Emma Peel’s very tight outfit in the film adaptation of the series Bowler Hat and Leather Boots (1998). Opposite her companion in the city at the time, Ethan Hawke , in the futuristic Welcome to Gattaca (1998), she starred under the direction of Woody Allen in Accords and Disagreements (1999) and was also at ease in literary frescoes ( Les MisĂ©rables 1998) and period films like Vatel (2000) by Roland JoffĂ© and La Coupe d’or (id.) by James Ivory .

Two years later, Uma Thurman trained hard in martial arts for the filming of the thunderous diptych Kill Bill (2003 and 2004), a bloody revenge story which marks her second collaboration with Quentin Tarantino , and at the same time one of his most notable performances. There is also talk of a reunion for Be Cool (2005), the sequel to Get Shorty , the beauty swaying her hips again alongside John Travolta , her dance partner in the unforgettable Pulp Fiction .

After Kill Bill, it was rather hard for the actress, who had difficulty finding interesting roles. In addition, his films are often commercial failures, notably My Super Ex (2006) and Mom Instructions (2009). However, she has the opportunity to respond to Oscar winners Meryl Streep ( Little Confidences (To My Psychiatrist) , 2006) and Colin Firth ( One Husband Too Many , 2008), while turning the heads of Producers Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick in the remake of Mel Brooks ‘ hilarious comedy . We can also see her as Medusa, in 2010, in Percy Jackson the Lightning Thief , the first part of yet another saga aimed at adolescents. If good roles are still rare, Uma Thurman is part of Robert De Niro ‘s jury for the 64th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, a status testifying to the quality of her career. Less and less present on the big screen, the actress took her first steps on television, in 2012, in the series Smash . She plays, for five episodes, a starlet who lands the role of Marilyn Monroe in a Broadway production centered on the famous star. The same year, we find her, at the cinema, in Madeleine Forestier, one of the conquests of Bel Ami Robert Pattinson , in a feature film adapted from the famous novel by Guy de Maupassant .
