BIOGRAPHY
Son of folk singer Gil Robbins, Tim Robbins was immersed in an artistic universe from an early age. Encouraged by his family, he joined a New York theater group at the age of twelve. He then studied in California at UCLA, where he formed the Actor’s Gang with other actors.

After an uncredited appearance as an assassin in Network, Hands on television in 1976, Tim Robbins made his real debut in front of the camera in 1986 with Top gun and Howard . However, it was his portrayal of a baseball player in Ron Shelton ‘s Duo à trois (1988) that earned him praise from the public and critics. It was during the filming of this film that he met his future partner, Susan Sarandon . He continued his career by taking on the title role of Erik the Viking (1989), then achieved recognition by showing the dramatic aspect of his acting in Jacob’s Ladder (1990) by Adrian Lyne . Continuing his momentum, in 1992 he won the Best Actor Award at Cannes and the Golden Globe for Best Actor for The Player by Robert Altman , made The Big Jump for the brothers Joel and Ethan Coen and brilliantly played Les Escapees under the direction by Frank Darabont . Alongside his acting career, in 1992 Tim Robbins directed his first film, Bob Roberts , a political satire on a far-right senator candidate, an opportunity for him to display his attachment to the Democratic Party. With his second feature film, The Last Walk (1995), he tackled the death penalty, an equally serious theme, encouraged by the poignant performances of Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn . This was followed by Broadway 39th Street , presented in competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 1999. From the end of the 90s, Tim Robbins had difficulty establishing himself as a headliner and often had to make do with secondary characters: an unsavory neighbor in Arlington Road . (1999) or an astronaut lost in space in Mission to Mars (2000), he does not hesitate to play the card of derision for Human nature (2001) by Michel Gondry . Winning the favor of Clint Eastwood , he landed, alongside Sean Penn and Kevin Bacon
