The general artist goes by his full name, Todd Joseph Miller. He was born on June 4, 1981 in Denver, Colorado as the son of Leslie Miller (Jewish mother) and Kent Miller (American father).

As a young child, he was educated at Graland Country.Day School and East High School where he was known as the class clown and a member of the school drama club. After high school, TJ Miller went to George Washington University (GWU) in Washington, DC to study psychology with an emphasis on situational theory and social influence. Over time, he graduated with a BA in 2003. Prior to receiving his degree, Todd was a prominent member of RECS, a comedy group at GWU. He also studied Shakespeare for a summer. British American Drama Academy in London.

Like any other actor who has a knack for making people laugh, TJ Miller began his entertainment career as a comedian when he moved to Chicago. He quickly rose to fame with an improv comedy company called The Second City which he toured with for 2 years. In 2011 he released his first comedy project called No Real Reason which was quickly followed by a comedy album titled Mash Up Audiofile in 2012.

Todd Joseph Miller gained a lot of attention with his role as Erlich Bachman on the HBO sitcom Silicon Valley. In the show, he plays a prominent team at Pied Piper – a tech company where he’s a venture capitalist, software designer, and chronic pot smoker.

Everything was going well for the actor, crew, and viewers until season 4 in 2017 when he decided to leave the show. As the media sought to better understand what was going on behind the scenes, TJ revealed, reported by The Hollywood Reporters, that he was offered a reduced number of episodes of the series and that he also hated Series director Alec Berg. Silicon Valley co-creator Mike Judge explained that it was clear that TJ was no longer on the show and so he decided to leave.
