The food maven was born in Waterbury, Connecticut, USA on February 19, 1971 to an American father and an Italian mother. He has two siblings. As a child, he was close to his mother and enjoyed her sausages and peppers which he preferred to eat over a fancy meal for his last supper. Apparently his culinary expertise rubbed off on him as he started cooking at a very young age. By age 11, he was already taking cooking classes at the local community college. In addition to mastering the culinary arts, Scott Conant was also athletic and reportedly a baseball player.

At age 15, he enrolled at WF Kaynor Technical High School for Culinary Arts, after which he attended the Culinary Institute of America (CIA), where his career took shape and flight. He draws inspiration from his Italian-American heritage which he also attributes to his balance between different cooking styles. However, he was quick to add that he doesn’t do the traditional Italian dishes but combines different ingredients from different parts of the country to create his own style.

While Scott Conant is known as a restaurateur, he didn’t launch his career by opening one. He started out working hard and diligently as a chef in various restaurants and brought culinary glory to everyone. After these successes, he then opened many restaurants across the country and beyond his shores.

Conant interned at New York’s San Domenico restaurant and after graduation he went to Munich, Germany where he mastered the art of pastry at the Bayerischer Hof Hotel for the following year and then entered the restaurant scene. He returned to San Domenico where he worked as a sous chef and in turn helped the restaurant earn three stars from The New York Times

Afterwards, he became head chef at the famous Italian restaurant, Il Toscanaccio in 1995. He then revamped two other Italian locations, including Barolo in SoHo and Chianti on the Upper East Side. He then became executive chef of City Eatery, which earned rave reviews under his leadership. Additionally, his modern take on Italian cuisine brought him more attention, earning him a loyal following and a glowing two-star review from the New York Times in 2000.

Following these successes, Conant began his long-term journey of opening restaurants with L’Impero in 2002. He earned a three-star review from The New York Times, won the James Beard Award for Best New restaurant and has been praised by major publications such as Gourmet and Food and Wine. Then other restaurants followed.

Conant opened an elegant Italian restaurant in Midtown Manhattan named Alto. In 2008, he brought his own vision of savory and sophisticated Italian cuisine to life with Scarpetta in Chelsea, Manhattan, which now operates in four other locations including Toronto, Miami, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Scarpetta received a three-star review from The New York Times and New York Magazine, with Esquire magazine naming it one of “America’s Best New Restaurants”.

In 2010, he opened a casual wine bar, DOCG Enoteca in Las Vegas which closed on June 20, 2017. He also unveiled his culinary suite in SoHo where he interacts directly with customers and brings his brand of wine to them. special hospitality through private dinners, cocktails and cooking demonstrations. He has several other restaurants outside of New York, including Mora Italian, a modern osteria in Phoenix; Le Ponte, a contemporary Italian restaurant in Los Angeles; Masso Osteria at Red Rock Casino, a Resort & Spa in Las Vegas; CORSAIR by Scott Conant at Turnberry Isle, Miami.

Most recently, Conant opened Italian SteakhouseCellaio Restaurant at Resorts World Catskills in Monticello, New York in May 2018 and will also be opening an Italian restaurant at LaGuardia Airport called Osteria Fusco.

Conant appeared on the Today Show and Home Shopping Network with a line of cookware, Scott Conant’s Signature Creations in 2007. His other screen credits include The Chew, CBS’ The TalkLive with Kelly & Michael and Hello America. He was a judge on a reality food competition show, 24 Hour Restaurant Battle in 2010 and now appears as a judge on the Food Network’s flagship show, Chopped

Beyond launching restaurants and appearing on television, Conant has also published several cookbooks, including New Italian Cooking (2005), Bold Italian (2008), and The Scarpetta Cookbook (2013). The celebrity chef has managed to turn his passion into a profession and continually seeks to seize new opportunities that reflect his enduring philosophy of savoring the pure pleasure of food until its last taste. His net worth is estimated at $5 million.

Beyond his culinary adventures, Scott is a friend and die-hard fan of Lionel Richie and enjoys spending time with his family.

He is married to a pet accessory tycoon, MeltemBozkurt. The duo tied the knot in 2007 in Turkey. They have two daughters; Ayla Sophia Reina, born February 8, 2010, and Karya Eva Maria, born September 19, 2012.
