Rhett Ellison was born in Foster City, CaliforniaHis father, Riki Ellison, is of New Zealand origin and was the first Kiwi to play in the NFL. He won three Super Bowl championships with the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Raiders. Ellison’s mother, Sheila Ellison, is a bestselling author of books on parenting and divorce. She once appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show. Rhett has two older sisters, Wesley and Brooke, and a younger brother named Troy.
Ellison received his high school education at St. Francis High School in California, where he played football. Scholarships were offered by various colleges for his incredible achievements, but he chose USC (University of Southern California), his mother’s alma mater. He was signed to USC for his freshman year and as such spent five years in college from 2007-2011. In his four competitive years at USC, the young soccer player received 53 passes for 471 yards and 6 touchdowns. He also made 9 tackles, 7 of which were solo. On the academic side, Rhett made sure the five years he spent at USC were not wasted as he earned a bachelor’s degree in international relations and a master’s degree in communications.
