Instead of playing like most children would, Otto Kilcher, in his early days, preferred to be busy fixing things around the house. As an adult, he is known as a handyman, but apparently he followed him from childhood when he liked to experiment with objects in the house, repair them or transform convicts into other objects that would prove very useful.

For Otto Kilcher, there’s nothing like junk food or junk, he just needs to put his adept hands on it and it turns treasure. However, it wasn’t his transformation from condemned item to treasure that made him famous, he joined the celebrity huddle when he became the center of attraction in the TV series, Alaska: The Last Frontier. In the American television show, the experiences of the Kilcher dynasty are featured with particular emphasis on how they survived the harsh weather conditions that kept people away from Alaska for decades. The family has remarkably done this for four generations. For what it’s worth, it has made life in Alaska bearable without the privileges of modern conveniences.

Otto Kilcher Bio

Unlike most people who immigrated to Alaska from Another Town, Otto Kilcher was born on Alaskan soil. His date of birth is April 19, 1952, with the exact birthplace recorded as Homer. His parents – Yule Kilcher (father) and his wife Ruth Kilcher emigrated from their home in Switzerland during World War II and settled in Alaska, USA. The Kilchers made their home in Alaska, dominating several acres of land.

There is no record of Otto attending school as a child, but he taught himself how to fix things among other skills. He was always the handyman in the family. He tried new techniques and experiments on objects around the house, especially doomed mechanical objects which he usually turns into more useful objects. He also takes care of the family’s livestock to ensure meat is available to all.

This modest lifestyle continued for years as the spotlight found Otto and the rest of his family. When you live in the cold land of Alaska, dreaming of being in the limelight is like building castles in the air. This impossibility has become feasible with the emergence of several television shows which have made several inhabitants famous. For the Kilcher family, it was Alaska: The Last Frontier that changed their history.

The Discovery Channel show traces the lives of Otto Kilcher, his older brother Atz and the rest of the family growing up over the years. The focus is on their day-to-day activities, as well as their survival strategies in the sparsely populated area where many people fear entering. Fascinated by the survival techniques the Kilchers come up with whenever there is a challenge, a growing fan base has been won by the show which has already run eight seasons. The first installment of the series hit the screen on December 29, 2011.

Personal life: wives and children

Otto Kilcher tasted the marital waters three times. He is currently enjoying marital bliss with his third wife, biologist Charlotte Irene Adamson. With her, Otto has a son, August Kilcher, and a stepson, Torey, from a previous relationship with Adamson.

Before Charlotte, there were two women who occupied the position of Otto’s wife at different times. The first was Olga Von Ziegesar, but the details of their marriage are not known, but apparently their love story ended in a divorce without children. Not giving up on love, Otto chooses Sharon Mckemie as his legally married second wife. The couple had two children, Levi Kilcher and Eivin Kilcher, before they called it quits in 1987.

Otto made sure to pass on his creative abilities to his children. He taught them how to make the most of any material available.
