In 1995 she was in Washington DC at the Competitive Enterprise Institute as a journalism fellow. The institute is described as a free market, anti-government regulation, libertarian think tank. Michelle Malkin had only been there a year when she later moved to Seattle, Washington, where she wrote columns for the Seattle Times. She became a columnist for the National Syndicate of Creators in 1999.
