Megan Rapinoe is a U. Megan’s full name is Megan Anna Rapinoe and she was born on July 5, 1985, in Redding, California, where she also grew up. Megan is one of six children born to her parents – Jim and Denise Rapinoe.

She is twin and her twin sister’s name is Rachael. Her twin sister is also a soccer player who previously played for the United States Women’s National Under-23 Soccer Team and also for Iceland Stjarnan Women.

Career

Their dad actually laid the foundation and love for football for little Megan who spent most of her early years playing with the various teams her dad coached. She attended Foothill High School, but rather than play football there, Rapinoe chose to play for Elk Grove Pride (now Sacramento Pride) of the Women’s Premier Soccer League.

At her school, she competed on track as a freshman and a sophomore. She also played basketball as a freshman, sophomore, and senior; and was consistently on the honor roll every semester and was soon named an All-American (both as a junior and senior) by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), as well as Parade.

In 1999, Megan competed on the Northern California State Olympic Development Program (ODP) under-14 team and in 2002 she also competed on the regional ODP team In 2014, she was named to the McDonald’s All-American Game.

She played for Elk Grove Pride (now Sacramento Pride) until 2005. After high school, Megan Rapinoe and her sister Rachael headed to the University of Portland, Portland, Oregon where they played for the Portland Pilots with full scholarships. She was also part of the soccer team that represented the United States at the 2004 FIFA U-19 Women’s World Championship, where she finished third.

In 2009, she was selected 2nd overall by the Chicago Red Stars in the 2009 WPS Draft to play in the inaugural Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) season. She was later named league all-star team and later played in the 2009 WPS All-Star Game against Sweden’s Damallsvenskan champions Umeå IK.

In 2011, Megan Rapinoe signed with Australian W-League side Sydney FC as a guest player in two of their games. The following year, she played with the other members of the national team – Alex Morgan, Stephanie Cox, Hope Solo and Sydney Leroux – with the Seattle Sounders between camps with the national team as they prepared for the 2012 Summer Olympics.

She was at French side, Olympique Lyonnais for six months spanning from 2013 to 2014, and after her expiration with Lyonnais, she signed with Seattle Reign FC, where she has remained to this day.

In a 2012 interview with Outside magazine, Rapinoe came out as a lesbian and revealed that she had been in a relationship with Australian footballer Sarah Walsh since 2009 The following year, they called it quits after being together for five years.

After the spill, Megan dated singer and songwriter Sera Cahoone. The duo announced their engagement in August 2015 and in January 2017, Megan Rapinoe revealed their wedding plans were on hold.

Later in 2017, Seattle Storm player Sue Bird on a show on ESPNW revealed that she was gay and that Megan Rapinoe was his girlfriend. Rapinoe would later confirm that they had been dating since the fall of 2016.
