Mary Blackshear Sessions was born in 1946 in Gadsden, Alabama. There aren’t many details about her family background or early childhood. Best known is that she completed her elementary and high school education in Gadsden before going to Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama for further studies. During college, Sessions was a very active student, joining various organizations such as the International Club, Huntingdon Christian Council and the Social Standards Board.

She was also a member of Sigma SigmaSorority and years after graduation remained a proud ambassador for her alma mater. Her husband Jeff Sessions is also from Alabama. He is from Selma and was born on the 24th of December 1946. His father’s name was Jefferson Sessions Jr. while his mother’s name was Abbie Powe. Jeff Sessions attended Wilcox County High School and Huntington College, where he received his law degree. He then studied law at the University of Alabama School of Law, graduating in 1973

Mary Blackshear Sessions is a professional teacher. Her passion for instilling knowledge in young minds led her to teach at schools in different parts of Alabama such as Montgomery and Tuscaloosa. On the other hand, her husband is a smart lawyer as well as a civil servant. After training as an attorney, Jeff Sessions practiced law before joining the firm of US Attorneys for the Southern District of Alabama in 1975. He served as an assistant attorney at the firm for six years before then-President Reagan appointed him U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama. Jeff Sessions entered politics in 1997 when he was elected to the Senate. He remained in the Senate for 20 years, having been re-elected in 2002, 2008 and 2014.
