BIOGRAPHY
Martin Lawrence’s career is entirely devoted to comedy. Growing up in Landover, Maryland, he distinguished himself in improvisation, notably at the famous Improvisation Club in Manhattan, where he won first place in the Star Search Showcase competition . It was upon seeing the video tape of this show that the executives of Columbia Television offered him his first regular role in the sitcom What’s Happening Now . He then hosted the show Def comedy jam before playing his first film role in Spike Lee ‘s Do the Right Thing in 1989. Three years later, he starred in the popular television series that bears his name , Martin , and opposite one of his models, Eddie Murphy , in the feature film Boomerang (1992). The two acolytes will meet again seven years later to take Perpète under the leadership of Ted Demme . But his cinematic consecration came in 1995 with his role as a snarky and talkative cop, alongside Will Smith , in the blockbuster Bad Boys . The success was such that the shock tandem reformed in 2003 for a much less successful sequel, Bad Boys 2 . His patter and comic talents proving popular, Martin Lawrence became a partner of choice for actors of the caliber of Tim Robbins ( Nothing to Lose , 1997), Danny DeVito ( Scammers , 2002) and Steve Zahn ( National Security , 2003). As a solo artist, he performed and directed his first feature film, A thin line between love and hate , in 1996 – a year during which he was interned in a psychiatric hospital -, then improvised as High Flight Cop in 1998. In 2007, he lends his voice for an animated film, Rebels of the Forest , then he shares with John Travolta and Tim Allen the cast of Band of Savages for a road trip for forty-year-olds in search of adventure. Lawrence goes even further with schoolboy humor with Big Mamma (2000), the story of an FBI agent who disguises himself as Mamma to obtain a confession from a witness: one of his biggest box office successes -American office. Five years later, after having traveled to the 14th century in Chevalier black (2002), and having trained the Basket academy

(2005), the troublemaker once again takes the appearance of the imposing Mamma for a second investigation orchestrated by John Whitesell . He continues to appear in comedies like The Return of Roscoe Jenkins and Daddy, the College and Me . Before returning, in 2011, to his flagship role of Big Mamma for a third part entitled Big Mamma: From Father to Son , he distinguished himself the year before under the direction of Neil LaBute in Panic at the Funeral , remake of a scathing British comedy .

In 2020, Lawrence reunited with his accomplice Will Smith for Bad Boys For Life , the third part of the saga initiated in 1995 by Michael Bay. The actor once again lends his features to cop Marcus Burnett. He also plays opposite Matthew McConaughey in Harmony Korine ‘s The Beach Bum .
