BIOGRAPHY
Kevin Smith introduced himself to the seventh art by attending the writing workshop of the New School for Social Research and the benches of the Vancouver Film School. Back in his native New Jersey, the young American landed a job as a cashier in a small grocery store, a job which gave him the idea for his first feature film.

In 1994, with a tiny budget, Kevin Smith wrote, directed and produced Clerks, a crazy black and white comedy depicting the daily life of a small grocery store. The film, presented at Sundance, won the Youth Prize at Critics’ Week in Cannes and the Audience Prize at the Deauville American Film Festival. In 1995, having become a key figure in American independent cinema, Smith signed Les Glandeurs , which allowed him to meet two actors who would become faithful accomplices: Ben Affleck and Jason Lee , a duo he found again in 1997 for Multiple Mistakes . More calm and less eccentric, this romantic comedy addresses the theme of female homosexuality and confirms the screenwriting and dialogue talents of its author.

In 1999, Kevin Smith caused a mini-earthquake in the religious world with Dogma , a big farce very freely revisiting religious Scriptures. He then concludes his cycle of films on New Jersey by inducting his cult characters Jay and Silent Bob ( Jason Mewes and himself, a recurring antinomic duo in his films) full heroes of the zany Jay & Bob Strike Back . In 2004, he directed Father and Daughter , a more adult comedy based on his own experience of fatherhood, starring Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler .

In 2006, Kevin Smith directed Clerks II , the sequel, twelve years later, to the film which revealed him to the public and the profession. Alongside his activities as director and screenwriter, he increasingly attempted forays in front of the camera for other directors, such as with Southland Tales and My Life Without Him . In 2007, he appeared in the credits of Die Hard 4 – Return to Hell and further expanded his palette by lending his voice to the cook of the new Ninja Turtles . After directing the unpublished in France Zack & Miri film a porno , Kevin Smith directed Bruce Willis in 2010 in the police comedy Top Cops .

Smith then took the next step by self-distributing his next film, Red State, which tells the story of how three young people come face to face with a sect of extremists. Three years later, Smith released Tusk (2014) then Yoga Hosers (2016), two stories mixing comedy, drama and horror.

Following the commercial failure of these three films, Kevin Smith turned to television, and in particular the CW series like Flash (3 episodes) and Supergirl (3 episodes), but also the ABC series The Goldbergs (2 episodes) . In 2018, he returned to feature films with the anthology horror film Killroy Was Here .
