Jordan Peterson – Bio

He was born Jordan Brent Peterson on June 12, 1962, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, to his parents, Beverly and Walter Peterson. Entering academia must have been a matter of heredity for the professor since his parents were also in the field. His mother was a librarian at Grande Prairie Regional College and his father was also a teacher. From an early age, Jordan’s inclination for academics began to reflect as he explored the world of learning through different books, written by authors such as George Orwell, Aldous Huxley and many others. .

He attended Fairview High School and graduated in 1979. He then went to Grande Prairie Regional College where he majored in political science and English literature. Jordan Peterson then joined the University of Alberta, where he finished with a solid background in political science. After graduating from college, Peterson wanted to understand the factors underlying certain current events that occurred before his time.

This zeal pushes him to travel to Europe to learn about the psychological origins of European totalitarianism in the 20th century and the Cold War. He wanted to know why human beings could allow themselves to be hated and destroyed, to the point of perpetuating wars and other terrible acts. During this time, he decided to venture into the field of psychology; Peterson returned to the University of Alberta to study psychology. In 1984, he had obtained a bachelor of laws and then went to McGill University in Montreal for his doctorate.

Jordan Peterson received his doctorate in clinical psychology in 1991 and worked as a postdoctoral researcher with Pihl and Maurice Dongier at McGill’s Douglas Hospital. In 1993, he began teaching at Havard University as an associate professor in the psychology department. He has also done a lot of research within the department. Peterson worked at Harvard until 1998, when he returned to the University of Toronto to take up a full-time faculty position.

As a psychologist, Peterson focuses his interest on the psychology of religious and ideological beliefs. In teaching, he also practices; the professor organizes clinical sessions and also offers psychological assistance to people.
