BIOGRAPHY
The young man grew up in a sporting and rigorous environment. Her parents, former athletes, are respectively a gym teacher and horse trainer. Very quickly, he became passionate about singing. During his adolescence, the stage was his favorite playground, notably the Fulton Opera House, a historic theater in the heart of Lancaster, where he performed regularly with an amateur troupe . The intention to pursue higher studies is certain, but a combination of circumstances launches him to the forefront: he is engaged in a musical, The Sound of Music, in which he plays the role of Rolf, a young Nazi 17 years old.

After the tour, Jonathan Groff realizes that he will never be able to afford to attend university or repay any student loans. He therefore moved to New York, with the aim of pursuing his ambitions. In 2005, he joined the Actors’ Equity Association (an association of professionals recognized in the entertainment industry) and was spotted the following year to play Melchior Gabor, the main role in the musical, Spring Awakening . His performance earned him nominations for the Tony and Drama Desk Awards . Her best friend, Lea Michele , who also stars, will introduce her to Ryan Murphy . This is how he appeared as a guest star in the first season of Glee in the guise of Jesse St James in 2010. But this is not his first appearance on television. Indeed, in 2007, he played the regular role of Henry Mackler in the ABC soap, You Only Live Once . He does not renew his participation in the musical which revealed him ( Spring Awakening ), since in 2008, Ang Lee entrusted him with the secondary character of Michael Lang, a musical producer, in Hotel Woodstock , inspired by a real story .

After a few film roles, in 2013 he lent his voice to Kristoff, the main character in Frozen . On the television side, he appeared in an episode of The Good Wife and became a regular on the 2nd and final season of Boss , opposite Kelsey Grammer . Ryan Murphy called him back to play in The Normal Heart , an Emmy Award -winning TV movie . But it was with his character Patrick Murray in Looking , on HBO, that he acquired real notoriety.
