James Richard Garoppolo, also known as Jimmy Garoppolo, is an American football quarterback who currently plays for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). He was born on November 2, 1991 and grew up in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
His aspirations to play in the NFL began at Rolling Meadows High School, Rolling Meadows, where he played as both a quarterback and linebacker for the Mustangs football team. He later moved to eastern Illinois for his collegiate football and as a senior in school broke existing school records for touchdowns, yards and touchdowns in a single season. Despite this, Jimmy Garoppolo won the Walter Payton Award for Best Offensive Player in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) in the 2013 season.
He was selected by the New England Patriots during the 2014 NFL Draft, and after three seasons the Patriots traded him to the San Francisco 49ers.
