Brief biography

He was born on September 23, 1976 in the town of Salford, Greater Manchester. His birth name is Robert Collier before he changed it to Robert James-Collier to comply with the rules of the British Actors’ Equity Association (now known as Equity).

He attended St Patrick’s Catholic School, Eccles, Greater Manchester and later graduated twice; one from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology and the other from the University of Huddersfield.

Career

Rob really got into the action by chance. According to him, he never had a game plan for his career because he committed to it quite punctually.

His first attempt at acting was a favor for a friend, who asked him to fill in for an actor who didn’t show up for a shoot. With this little experience that impresses him, he begins to take acting lessons when he is not working.

In the year 2000, with no real acting experience, Rob auditioned for the BBC One television series, Down to Earth, and was given the role of pub landlord, after Denise Welch and Ricky Tomlinson discovered its potential. In 2006, he landed the role of Stud in the third series of Shameless, episode 5, with the name Rob Collier. The same year, he also appeared in New Street Law.

Relying on these works, he began appearing on the British Soap Opera Coronation Street as Liam Connor and remained on the Soap until early 2008 when he announced in an interview that he was leaving the show but was leaving the show. he intended to return in the future. But in June, the character he played, Liam Connor, was reportedly killed at the Soap and three residents were being investigated for the crime.

After leaving Coronation Street, Rob James-Collier landed the lead role of Thomas Barrow in the British period drama television series Downton Abbey, which aired from 2010 to 2015. He also starred in the West End stage version of Calendar Girls, directed by Nigel Cole. In 2016, he appeared in the British crime drama, The Level as Kevin O’Dowd, followed by his role in the British horror film, The Ritual as Hutch. Besides that, the thespian has also starred in several other movies like Perfect Day, Victim, Moving On, Love Life, Christmas Star, Spike Island and many more.

Besides acting, Rob is also into modeling. The British beauty has modeled for Argos and appeared in their Fall/Winter 2007 and Spring/Summer 2008 catalogs.

He is a two-time winner of the British Soap Awards for Sexiest Male, and on top of that, Rob James-Collier also won ‘Best Release’ at the 2009 British Soap Awards and Best Male and Best New came to the 2007 Soap Awards.

Rob James-Collier is unmarried but has a girlfriend Lauren Chandiram, with whom he has a son; Milo James Collier. Their couple was born in 2010. The couple was together, but there was no talk of bonding between husband and wife yet. Rob describes Lauren as being a great support for him.
