Gary Oldman was born on March 21, 1958 in London, England. He is the youngest of three children of Leonard Bertram Oldman, a former sailor and bus driver, and Kathleen Cheriton, a housewife. The Oldman family has diverse origins, with Irish, Scottish and English ancestry. On his father’s side, Gary’s grandfather, Robert Oldman, was an English auto mechanic, married to Grace Simpson, a woman of Irish descent.

 They had a son, Leonard, who later became Gary’s father. On his mother’s side, Gary’s grandparents were Albert Cheriton and Ada Bond, both of Scottish descent. Albert was a plumber, while Ada worked in a textile factory. Gary Oldman has an older brother, Leonard, and an older sister, Laila Morse, who also pursued an acting career.
