Fannie Flagg whose birth name is Patricia Neal was born in Birmingham, Alabama to parents, William Hurbert Neal, Jr., and Marion Leona (née LeGore) on September 21, 1944. She has no siblings, which makes him the only child of his parents. From the early stages of her life, she was raised near the Gulf Coast town of Point Clear, after which she and her parents resettled in the Birmingham area.

As a child, Flagg became extremely interested in acting and writing mostly due to the push his father gave him. So, at the age of 10, she was able to complete her very first play. Shortly after that and again, as a teenager, she received a one-year scholarship to attend acting school after competing in a beauty pageant (Miss Alabama). She then got a job with WBRC-TV where she worked as a co-host on the station’s program called “Morning Show”. Fannie Flagg later resigned from working with the station after her request for a pay rise was denied. After quitting her job, she moved to New York to seek better opportunities.

Moving to New York, Fannie got the opportunity to act in plays and it was during this time that she changed her name from Patricia Neal to Fannie Flagg. The name change happened because there was already an established actress with the same who was registered with Actors’ Equity. The surname ‘Flagg’ was chosen by her grandfather while Fannie was chosen on the suggestion of her friend. She also paired her scene with a skit written for Upstairs at Downstairs, a nightclub located in New York City.

On one occasion the comedian came with an illness, she stepped in and delivered a brilliant performance which caught the eye of Allen Funt, the creator of Candid Camera. As a result, Fannie was asked to become both a performer and screenwriter on the Hidden Camera show. During the 1970s, Fanni Flagg appeared as a panelist for the game show “Match Game . In 1975, she starred in the pilot episode of the television show The New Adventures of Wonder Woman where she played the role of Doctor Amazon.

Fannie Flagg can boast of the career she has enjoyed over the years. She wrote a book called “The Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café” which earned her millions not only in sales but also in royalties and payments she received after her book was made into a movie. She also earns a lot of money as an actress who has starred in feature films and TV series.

More so, she gets paid to appear on talk shows which also adds to her earnings. Although a particular figure has not yet been disclosed, all the efforts she has put into her career in various ways are not in the millions of dollars.

In fact, the first time she dated a woman after becoming popular was in the late 1970s, and it was with a woman named Rita Mae Brown (an American writer). She met Rita she met at a party hosted by Marlo Thomas in the Hollywood Hills. The couple decided to live together for a while in a house located in Charlottesville, Virginia. However, they soon separated. After the breakup, Rita revealed that Fannie had been living with her new girlfriend, Susan Flannery (former actress on Love, Fame and Beauty ) for eight years.
