David Bowditch Morse was born in Beverly,Massachusetts on October 11, 1953. He grew up in the cities of Essex and Hamilton, both also in Massachusetts. His mother, Jacquelyn, worked as a school teacher, while his father, Charles Morse, made a living as a sales manager. He has 3 younger siblings.

Morse completed his high school education in 1971. He then enrolled to study acting at the William Esper Studio in Manhattan, New York. He previously worked as a stage actor at the Boston Repertory Theater where he appeared in over 30 productions over the course of 6 years. He remained a part of the New York theater community until 1980, when he became involved in film and television.

Morse’s breakthrough came in 1982 when he starred as Dr. Jack “Boomer” Morrison was cast in the NBC medical series St. Elsewhere He did a brilliant portrayal of the character throughout the 6 season run of the series and this made him a popular television audience across the US. He has also acted in countless made-for-TV movies, and in 1993 played the character Dave Bell on the short-lived sitcom Big Wave Daves
